My Love Affair With All Things Towels
Yes I just had to admit it: I'm in love with towels! I love all kinds of towels -- if it's a towel I probably own it, or collect it. My love affair with towels began many years ago, when, at my grandmothers knee, I learned how to embroider towels. This is all the more surprising perhaps because I am a man, rather than a woman. Learning how to embroider towels came in very handy later on in my life, when I decided to go into business for myself selling personalized beach towels, as well as monogrammed towels to family, friends, and neighbors.
In addition to learning how to embroider towels, I also learned the proper way to clean and iron them, as well as the proper storage of towels. That's why in my home today you will find many different towel racks -- I have standing towel racks in our bathroom and in the master bedroom, as well as an outdoor towel rack located on our back porch.
As well, I have a monthly calendar towel prominently displayed on our kitchen wall. I have at present over two dozen monthly calendar towels -- a few of which are mounted on the walls, the rest I have put safely in storage. In fact, my monthly calendar towels collection has grown quite a bit over the years. I now own over 100 monthly calendar towels, and many of them were bought quite cheaply at various flea market sales down through the years. Of course, in the kitchen I have a magnetic paper towel holder mounted under the kitchen cabinet sink area, to clean up after the inevitable kitchen messes and spills.
I guess we are especially pampered in our bathroom area: our bathroom towel holders are actually custom manufactured, and features a wrought iron towel bar which gives a very distinctive appearance. As well, we also have a small electric towel warmer sitting on the bathroom vanity. It is just so nice to be able to wake up in the morning and use a fluffy terrycloth towel that has been gently warmed by one of these electric towel warmers! You could call me crazy, I guess -- or just plain ridiculous, even -- but down through the years I have managed to surround myself with towels of every conceivable size and type. I don't know what it is about towels that appeals to me so -- perhaps the fact that they are both beautiful as well as functional. Whatever the reasons might be, there is no doubt that I have an obsession with collecting them, and having them about my home. In fact, it would be very difficult for me to even feel at home without my towels -- strange isn't it? All I know is that my towel collection continues to grow and grow -- and so does my love affair with all things towels.
